ABOUT

Our Inspiration

Roost Gallery is built on the belief that art should feel like coming home—familiar, grounding, and alive with story. Many wildlife paintings are created directly on reclaimed barnwood and salvaged timber, letting the wood’s weathered grain and quiet history shape the imagery. These pieces are more than paintings; they’re a meeting place where the wild finds a resting perch, and forgotten wood finds new purpose. At Roost Gallery, we honor nature by bringing its spirit home in every handcrafted work.

Working in an alla prima, or “wet-on-wet,” style allows each piece to be created in a single, fluid session—capturing the immediacy and honesty of the moment. Brushstrokes stay fresh, colors mingle organically, and the energy of the subject is preserved before it has a chance to settle. This spontaneous technique pairs naturally with reclaimed wood, letting the painting respond to every knot and contour as it unfolds. The result is artwork that feels alive, unforced, and deeply connected to both the wild and the wood beneath it.
